Towpath Trail Open At Fitzwater Bridge Weekends Only
Brecksville, Ohio – The Towpath Trail near Fitzwater Road Bridge is
presently closed during the week. The closure is expected to last
into September 2010. The National Park Service is in the process of
replacing the Fitzwater Road bridges over the Cuyahoga River and the
Ohio & Erie Canal spillway. The weekday closure is required to protect the
public from construction activities near and over the trail.
Starting this week, the Towpath Trail will be open weekends, beginning at 5
p.m. on Fridays and will reclose at 6 a.m. on Mondays.
Fitzwater Road is located near Canal Road, between Canal Visitor Center and
Frazee House, in Valley View.
The weekday closures include:
Towpath Trail from Lock 37 to north of the Pleasant Valley Road
Bridge underpass
Fenced construction area around the Fitzwater Bridge construction
site and adjacent Towpath Trail
Other areas as indicated by closed signs
There is no detour posted. When necessary, Park Rangers will issue court
citations to persons violating the terms of this closure under authority of
16 USC 3; 36 CFR 1.5(f). For more information, contact Project Manager Rob
Bobel at (800) 433-1986, ext. 5972.
